I agree about the navigation-- it's always a balance between audience, goals, and politics. Since we don't have a portal or intranet, things like the A-Z index, faculty & Staff and Current Student pages have been around for ages and are heavily used by our internal audience. I'm pretty sure I would get lynched if I removed them, although I've thought about it a lot. :) I also agree about the consistency-- we are redesigning Admissions next to go with the new look, but I don't have control over everything I linked to on the front page, unfortunately.
