Tinkering with Video
So messing around with video in general is new to me. So I’m trying to figure out how to use Flash to create embedded video in nifty, YouTube-style players on a website. (Yes yes, I’m WAY behind here. Tell me about it.)
So here’s a horrid quality video I shot with my phone of my office as a proof of concept.
If you’d like to know how I managed to get at least this far, I’m using Jeroen Wijering’s Flash video player along with the WP-FLV WordPress plugin.
I’m still trying to figure out a better way to convert the .3gp video from my phone to a file format that Flash can work with. Right now I have to do two conversions, which doesn’t help the already yucky quality. At least working with a real digital video recorder will be easier :P

A co-worker just pointed out your blog to me. It is a great read and I have found it useful for my job as a higher-ed webmaster. I am also starting the video thing myself. I have a few student examples here: http://www.mhc.edu/profiles/video.asp and some experiements up at youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/marshillcollege
As you have already figured out, compressing twice is the death of resolution. ;-)
I am glad to see you using Flash as the delivery player. Good choice! Let’s keep in touch so we can get past the hump and help each other make better video content!
Again, thanks for making your blog. This is long overdue.
