Google Public Service Search

Those of you who use Google’s free Public Service Search feature to power your school’s site search may have noticed that the service has been squirrelly lately (your site template is gone for one thing). The good people on the uwebd list have pointed out why:

I heard rumors about Google ending support for the service, but their blog entry seems to contradict that. What the blog entry doesn’t address are the reports of off-site search results appearing in some of the searches. I’m pitching the Google Mini Search Appliance to bossman anyway, regardless of how this shakes out. We’ll see what happens.

    The temporary style is offending me too. I have a daily check to see when they fix it and get disgusted everytime I look.
    I don’t think I will getting any new hardware this year, so pray for me and Google both!
    The exploit example was imressive, to say the least. Google should think about hiring Eric Farraro!
